The Glenora Park Retirement Residence Public Art Commission was awarded to Jacqueline Metz and Nancy Won Chew for their sculpture Untitled (wind and stars and birds and life). Untitled subverts the tradition of grand equestrian statuary set on high plinths. Our packhorse is on the ground with us and without a heroized rider. Together, the horse and purple martins are familiar friends that link Glenora Park to the far reaches of the world, representing migration to new homes, building community wherever they go. This artwork, situated at the entry to Clifton Park, is rooted in familiar parts of our lives – the sound of birds in our backyards, rural life, children and animals, families and friends connected.

The artwork is located within the custom landscaped park across from the Glenora Park residence that overlooks Edmonton’s River Valley. The selected piece can be enjoyed from the upper levels of the building, as well as experienced within the park itself. It activates this social space by creating opportunities for residents, visiting family members, and the broader communities to gather, connect, share stories, and reflect.
